As quoted from the National Audubon Society Field Guide to Birds: Western Region, "This gull demonstrates that all migration in the Northern Hemisphere is not necessarily southward in fall and northward in spring. On its breeding grounds, Heermann's Gull commonly follows fishing boats and steals fish from Brown Pelicans. Farther north it scavenges along beaches and feeds on herring eggs."
