The quaint San Mateo Coast town of Half Moon Bay, 25 miles south of San Francisco on the Pacific Coast Highway, U.S. 1, is world-renowned for it's pumpkin growing. Every year in October, thousands of tourists flock to the annual Half Moon Bay Art and Pumpkin Festival which features growers from around the world competing in the world's largest pumpkin growing contest. Pumpkins displayed have been weighed in excess of 2,000 pounds.
