Best known as the setting for author John Steinbeck's novels, historic Main Street in Oldtown Salinas retains a similar look to that of the area in the early 1900's. The J.H. McDougall Building was built in 1898 by California architect William H. Weeks. This building is one of the few buildings in Oldtown Salinas to have survived the wide-ranging devastation of the 1906 San Francisco earthquake.
