Wah Hop Store, Marshall Gold Discovery SHP, Coloma, CaliforniaPhoto ID# RW3819 Click here to license the picture for publication. When word of "The Land of the Golden Mountain" reached China, some chinese miners ended up at Coloma to placer mine gold. They were efficient workers and soon began receiving hostility from the other ethnic groups which in turn led to discriminatory laws against the Chinese. All that is left of the Chinese community at Coloma is the Wah Hop Store which was a general merchandising operation, and the Man Lee Building which was a bank and trading post that has now been converted into an interpretive display center. |
