The last place that my mom and I visited on our Yosemite trip last month was the California State Mining and Mineral Museum. We were staying at a motel in Mariposa so we made a mental note to visit on our way back home since we initially saw the museum just down the street as we were arriving into town. It was a nice little museum with educational exhibits on minerals in California and the history of mining in the Gold Country. There was even a simulated mine shaft that you can walk through.

We were saddened to learn that the museum is on the California State Parks closure list in 2012 and signed the petition. I’m crossing my fingers! California clearly has some serious problems when our public parks have to shut down and be taken away from us to enjoy.

I believe AB 64 has passed and the museum will not close, at least not in the near future.

Hi Gerry. I hadn’t read about that but will have to look it up now. Thanks.
