Spreckels Organ

The Spreckels Organ is the world’s largest outdoor pipe organ. It was quite a sight to be able to go inside of the building that houses the organ and see the pipes up close. See more photos of San Diego.

Price Center, UCSD

UC San Diego has some interesting architecture. The Geisel Library (named in honor of Dr. Seuss) in particular was quite an architectural masterpiece. It was overcast however so I didn’t photograph it. I liked this yellow hallway at the Price Center though. See more of my San Diego pictures.

An Unforgettable Kiss

The nurse, Edith Shain, featured in the famous WWII Times Square kiss photo passed away this week at the age of 91. I thought it was interesting that the nurse never publicly admitted her identity until the 1970’s and that the identity of the sailor who kissed her is still unknown. Apparently they were strangers …

USS Midway

The USS Midway is a fantastic site to visit if you are in the San Diego area. It is pretty neat to climb down into the ship and explore the various passageways and rooms on-board. I’m sure that some people have probably gotten lost in there. The flight deck though is probably the star attraction …

Unconditional Surrender

Inspired by the famous 1945 World War II – era photo taken by Alfred Eisenstaedt, The “Unconditional Surrender” Kiss Statue in San Diego is an incredible sight. It is 25 feet tall but looks much bigger when you are standing next to it. The sun was backlighting the statue so I decided to make this …

North Shore – Salton Sea

Black’s Beach

Nude Female Model in Ocean at Black’s Beach, La Jolla, California Black’s Beach is famous for being a “clothing-optional” beach. I’d heard a lot about this beach but never really knew where it was located. It wasn’t until that Brian suggested going over to the Torrey Pines Gliderport Park that we met this lifeguard on …

California Sea Lion, La Jolla

California Sea Lion, La Jolla Childrens Pool, California After Border Field State Park, we stopped by Hotel Del Coronado and the Ferry Landing before moving onto La Jolla. This was the 3rd or 4th time I have been to the Children’s Pool. There was nothing out of the ordinary happening on this day but I …

The International Kelp

Mexican Boys Carrying Giant Kelp Back to Tijuana, Border Field State Park, California This is the strand of kelp featured in the previous blog post. After the kids finished looking at Brian Auer’s camera, they ran over to the kelp and took it back home for a souvenir from America I suppose. I got a …

Border Field SP Seascape

Giant Kelp Seascape, Border Field State Park, California It was actually a very pretty day out. The clouds were hovering off shore with clean air quality and a nice quality to the sunlight. In terms of the geological evolution of this planet, the U.S. / Mexican border situation is irrelevant; waves continue to crash, kelp …
