Garden photography is all about the light. Light is important for all photography obviously but for garden photography to standout from the millions of other garden photos, it is essential to understand how the camera sees light. Everyone has a camera at The Huntington but few tourists have extensive experience in nature photography which is the ultimate training ground if you want to learn how to harness natural light to your advantage. That is why I feel there are still many new opportunities awaiting me at The Huntington over the next year as I photograph the grounds.

Nice images. I like the bottom one the best, followed by the middle image. A good example of being able to get natural close ups from domestic gardens. I imagine the advantage of these photos from a stock standpoint is that they can stand as garden photos or nature photos. Is that right?

Thanks David. I suppose you could look at it that way from a marketability standpoint but mainly I was pursuing these images for creative exercise. I usually don’t walk around with the 70-200 so it was kind of fun to do that.
