The other night as I photographed the earth shadow from Mount Tamalpais State Park, it reminded me of the first time I had photographed it ten years ago in Arizona. It was a breathtaking experience. I’m not a meteorologist but I think earth shadow is a fairly common occurrence. The effect seems more pronounced at higher altitude. It’s one of those things that kind of fly under the radar even amongst landscape photographers because it’s not as obvious as explosive red sunset clouds but when there is that distinct separation between blue and purple it is just as beautiful in my opinion.
