Cowboy Running from Bull at 2011 Frank Bogert Memorial Rodeo, Palm Springs, California

I had a media pass at the Frank Bogert Memorial Rodeo in Palm Springs this past weekend so I had pretty much unlimited access to the venue. It was a very interesting experience though even as a photographer at rodeo events you have to keep your eye on what’s going on because you can still get seriously injured on the sidelines if you’re too close to the action. A few times I had to back away from the railing due to charging horses and bulls. Not just that but you have to watch out for any cowboys that have to go jumping out of the arena for safety. One thing I didn’t try is climbing on top of the release pens where all the cowboys are and shooting the action with a wide angle so I’ll probably try that next time because I’m a bit crazy like that!
