Well it’s nearly holiday shopping season again so I’ve compiled a list of interesting gifts for photographers. These gift ideas are based on my own personal opinions or what I’ve heard and seen from other photographers.
GoPro Camera HD Hero2: Outdoor Edition – these little video cameras are perfect for the outdoor recreation-loving photographer.
Nik Silver Efex Pro 2 Software – I haven’t tried Nik software for my own images but I’ve heard that many photographers swear by their products. The company was recently purchased by Google so pick up this software soon if you want to see what all the fuss is about before things change.
Arctic Butterfly Sensor Brush – The Arctic Butterfly is nice to carry along while traveling on planes because it doesn’t require canned air or liquids (banned on plane flights) to be effective. This brush works a bit differently than others in that it is motorized in order to charge up static which is supposed to pick up dust particles.
So You Want to be a Rockstar Photographer by Gary Fong – A very honest look at the current state of the wedding photography industry by the most successful wedding photographer in history. There is also realistic advice on what it is like to pursue a career in wedding photography.
The Sam Abell Library: Life and Still Life – A set of books by long-time National Geographic photographer, Sam Abell. Mr. Abell is one of my favorite photographers so this is definitely on my wish list for when the set is released on November 30th.
Walker Evans: American Photographs – a classic collection of images from legendary, Dust Bowl-era documentary photographer, Walker Evans.
Rode Stereo VideoMic Pro – though many DSLR’s are capable of producing high-quality video these days, the audio quality is another story. This mic is a surround mic which is ideal for capturing ambient sounds. Pair it with a deadcat to muffle the wind in order to get a clean sound outdoors.
