We encountered rain during the last stretch of our Icefields Parkway drive and it became a hard rain shortly after checking into our room which was located right in the middle of Jasper. It didn’t last long however and became this stunning double rainbow. I captured this photo from our 2nd floor room which overlooked the main street through town and the Jasper Rail Station. After burning through a bunch of frames, I ran downstairs to across the street to catch this locomotive and conductor passing through town right before the rainbow completely disappeared.
My family and I ended up liking Jasper (the town) more than Banff because it was a smaller town with less tourists to contend with. Jasper had good restaurants (Downstream is a must! Try the poivree poutine.) and was very walkable. The local artist guild even had a jam session where anyone with an instrument could just come in and play. As if the scenery wasn’t enough, Jasper is a really cute place!
