Decepticon - Soundwave
As I was digging some paper out of the cabinet for my copy machine, an old Transformers poster just kind of popped out of nowhere. So I got this crazy idea that I’d photograph as many vintage Transformers toys as I could and make a gallery for these pictures on my site. These toys are probably around 25 years old so I don’t really want to bring them out unless I have to because you know once stuff breaks you can’t really fix it. At least with the photos I could remember what toys I played with as a kid without having to physically bring them out. Also if textbook publishers have a need for 80’s-era toys then at least I’d have some relevant photos.
The Transformers poster struck my imagination because while I had always remembered what the characters looked like, I didn’t remember the names except for Optimus Prime. I chose to photograph Soundwave first, which is a Decepticon (bad guys), because this robot was one of my first toys.

Transformer - Soundwave Cassette
Transformers were really cool toys because each robot could transform into an object resembling something from real life. Some of them can even interact with each other in a symbiotic sort of relationship. Notice inside the cassette player, there is another robot in there disguised as the cassette. That robot, named Buzzsaw, can transform into a golden condor. So there is my tie-in with nature photography.

Thanks Teri. That is the joy of being a stock photographer. I can shoot anything I want even if it is a complete 180 from what I normally do.

Yeah we all have them.
Thanks, that’s good that it looks polished because the toy itself was quite dusty I must admit.

Don’t even mention them in front of my Nine year old, when this next movie comes out I am sure he will try to bankrupt us !

Hey Bernie. Yeah your kid probably will do that to you. I know when I was a kid, nothing was ever enough for me! I hope my parents aren’t reading this…
