The Point Cabrillo Light Station is by far the most beautiful lighthouse I have ever seen. Not only is it well-preserved the but the red roof is really eye-catching. I asked the ranger about the paint and she told me that they decided early on that the red paint would be it’s signature color to make it easily identifiable from off-shore and that no other building in Mendocino County can have a red roof as a result. The glossy red paint itself is a special recipe that Ford Motor Company shared with the lighthouse because normal glossy paint normally doesn’t last outdoors so they needed car paint to make it work.
