Ross Fountain Video – Butchart Gardens

Ross Fountain Video – Butchart Gardens from Richard Wong.

After my recent experience with coyotes howling at Joshua Tree National Park late at night while photographing the Milky Way, I realized how limiting still photography is when it comes to capturing the true experience of the outdoors. Still photography in my opinion has much more potential to be visually appealing than HD video but it doesn’t capture the experience and emotional impact of sound and nor does it capture motion very well. That realization has sparked my interest in capturing video footage so I’m going to spend some time researching techniques and sound equipment so I can be better equipped to make videos.

At first I thought, “Why video a fountain?” But the thought also raised my curiosity. Now after seeing this I can say that it makes a very nice video. I used to be into video back when it took completely different technology, but that was for the purpose of making dramatic short films. Now I prefer to keep photography and video separate because they feel like completely different art forms to me, but I understand the appeal of merging the two as is becoming more and more common.

Thanks David. I sat here for a few hours watching this at night and had to capture some video of it for memories since I remember this as a kid. There are some business reasons for doing video as well so it’s an interesting time right now.
