Dead Oak Trees, Sonny Bono Salton Sea National Wildlife Refuge, California

The dead oak trees are probably the most photographed landscape in the Salton Sea. I had always wondered where they were located, thinking perhaps I missed them along the wildlife refuge shoreline on my first visit. This time I was just randomly driving all over the place not even looking for them when magically they just showed up! Well maybe it wasn’t that dramatic but hopefully you get the point. It is more fun to just wander without preset expectations and sometimes you will find surprises.

Nice capture and sentiment. Expectations should be to go with the flow of the moment.

Thanks for shining some light on the history of this place Richard. It seems like such a bizarre place.

Thanks Mark. Yeah it is kind of a scary place that you wouldn’t really want to spend the night at.
