Five Places to Take Pictures in All 50 U.S. States

The “Great American Road Trip” is a dream shared by many, myself included. So I got to thinking about what I would like to do if I were to visit every state in the U.S. There are obviously too many great things in this country for one person to photograph everything in-depth during one lifetime …

Alaska Photo Galleries

This was one of the final photos I took on the Alaska trip before driving back to the airport in Anchorage so that wraps up this series of Alaska photo blog posts. With that said, I would like to announce that I have now uploaded a gallery of Alaska pictures and grizzly bear pictures to …

Aialik Glacier

Aialik Glacier was definitely the highlight of the 9 hour boat tour. Not only is this place beautiful but the calving is something that has to be experienced. It sounds like a building demolition but ten times louder! See more of my Alaska pictures.

Moon Jellies

We found a large school of moon jellies during the boat tour. I used to work an aquarium in San Francisco that had moon jellies but nothing compares to seeing the real thing in the wild. See more of my Alaska pictures.

Orca

As mentioned in the previous post, I took the Captain’s Choice Boat Tour but this had to have been the most frustrating photo shoot I have ever been on in my life. The seas were quite rough on this day particularly in the open seas around the Chiswell Islands. Shooting from a boat is difficult …

Playful Grizzly Bear Cub

This was probably my favorite photo from Alaska. I don’t know what it is but I can’t stop smiling when I look at this. Seeing the grizzly bear cub playing with the driftwood for quite some time, it was fascinating to watch the destruction the cub did on it. See more of my grizzly bear …

The Thrill of the Chase

Frans Lanting once said that, “The worst day in the field is better than the best day in an office.” To me that speaks to the unpredictability of being outdoors. You just never know what will happen. There’s no need to be an alcoholic if you are a nature photographer because your life should be …

Creek Crossings in an ATV Vehicle

Some of the more tense moments during the photo tour had nothing to do with grizzly bears but strategically trying to figure out how to cross Silver Salmon Creek without stranding the ATV vehicles or worse, getting stranded ourselves. Another tour group for example was stranded for several hours out on the beach because they …

Alaska Wildflowers

Much of the roadside along the Seward Highway from Anchorage to Seward was carpeted with purple fireweed wildflowers. I quickly learned that nothing comes easy in Alaska however as the extremely windy conditions made for wildflower photography nearly impossible during my trip except for this brief lull in action on my 2nd evening in Alaska. …

Tufted Puffins

Ron was generous enough to let all of us take turns on this scene halfway up the rocky cliffside with his 600mm f4 + 2x TC. With the 1.6x crop sensor of the Canon 7D camera body I was using the focal length was equivalent to 1920mm in focal length! According to my EXIF data, …
