Photo: Richard Wong Photography Print AdvertisingI had this print ad idea for my website. The intent is to generate awareness of the fact that I'm a California photography specialist among other things and my website has the searchable photo archive database. Click the photo link to see the big pdf. It's about 5mb, and that was saved at a level "1" compression!
I basically took a lot of captions from my California photos and pasted them into a word document. Then I tried to copy the whole document and paste it into this file you see above but my computer kept crashing on me when I did that. So I ended up only able to copy and paste one page over and over again. Even then, the RAM was being maxed out on my computer. I need to fine-tune the design and get higher resolution images on there but you can see the basic idea as is. This is kinda an inside joke for those photographers who do online stock photography.
I don't know if I will run this in an actual publication or not but since I currently do no traditional advertising for my website, it might be worth exploring after I come back from the coastal photography trip. Communcation Arts would be the most prestigious place to run the ad but they're probably outside of my budget and not quite my target audience, but I'm sure there are some publications geared toward editorial photo buyers. I'll have to head over to the pro stock photo forums to find out.
Added 6/30/07: Ron Niebrugge had a good suggestion regarding the body copy so I made some changes. I don't really like the way the block of text looks with the shorter amount of copy so I need to mess with the layout more next week. I'll also have to make myself a high resolution film strip at a later date because the current file is of a lower resolution than the photos. The ad has to be professional looking otherwise it wouldn't be worth placing in a publication. That would be like corporate companies deciding to cut costs by buying photos for pennies. It's not worth jeopardizing a company's professional reputation for the sake of saving a few bucks. It takes years to build a strong brand, and only one cheap photo to destroy it.
Rights-Managed stock photos are the best way to go if you are serious about your business.
