Samantha was working out of the Central Valley so I spent the weekend at a wildlife refuge while she was at work. I had never been to this place before but had heard that it’s a popular place for winter birding so I figured I would go check it out since I was in the area already. I was surprised at how beautiful this area was.
If you’ve never been to a wildlife refuge before in California, they all basically look the same more or less with varying degrees of agricultural and industrial things in the background. Given that the surrounding areas look so lackluster it is a welcome sight to see birds migrate to these locations. There weren’t a ton of birds here yet as the birds migrate when the northern hemisphere starts to freeze over but I could tell that this place has a lot of potential. I haven’t even scratched the surface.
Since I was filming some footage, I caught a couple sets of mass takeoffs on video but have no stills of it so I’ll probably just focus on stills on my next visit. In hindsight I probably should have brought my backup camera along and set up another tripod so I would have been better prepared to capture everything I wanted to.
