Weekdays will generally have less tourists in the vineyards but the commute traffic is generally pretty awful. What would normally be a one-hour drive to my home in the Bay Area on the weekends is easily 2+ hours during the weekday. On the other hand, it can be very busy at the more popular wineries during the weekends during peak travel season.

Be forewarned that you're likely to see lots of selfie sticks and people dressed all glammed up for their Instagram feeds. The vineyards are in peak form during the mid-summer months with lots of greenery. During the late-summer you're more likely to see grapes at or nearly-ripe. That's the best time to photograph them in my opinion. During the fall season, most grapes have been harvested or fallen but you can find some photogenic grapes if you look hard enough. It's mostly about the fall color around this time however. Even the trees in the town of Yountville turn a deep crimson red.
