Flower Nature Photography

Fine Art Flower Photography Prints For Sale

Flower photography is a diverse sub-genre of nature photography that runs the gamut from wide-angle sweeping wildflower landscapes to close-up floral garden portraits and impressionist abstract macro photos. The most common time of year for witnessing and creating flower pictures is during the spring season but this is highly-variable dependent on seasonal weather patterns. High-altitude locations such as Yellowstone National Park can remain frozen until the summer months while northern latitude locations such as the Canadian Rockies and Alaska have a short mid-to-late summer window for plant growth. Meanwhile southwestern states such as Arizona and California's Mojave Desert can see peak wildflower blooms as early as February.

My mom and grandmother have always been really into flowers. That sort of rubbed off on me as my initial attempts at photography 20 years ago began with photo shoots at local Southern California gardens such as The Huntington Botanical Gardens and Descanso Gardens. Though I'm perhaps best known as a landscape photographer, my early photos were primarily close-ups of flowers. I've since photographed flowers of all shapes and sizes in a variety of different ways. Call it the "photographer's curse" but I also happen to be severely allergic to flower pollen.
