This stunning location offers panoramic views of the city and the surrounding mountains, and it has played an important role in film and Hollywood history.
Mulholland Drive is named after William Mulholland, the chief engineer who oversaw the construction of the Los Angeles Aqueduct in the early 1900s. The aqueduct brought water from the Owens Valley to Los Angeles, making it possible for the city to grow into the metropolis it is today. Mulholland Scenic Overlook was built in 1939 and was designed by architect William L. Pereira. The overlook was created to provide a scenic viewpoint of the city and surrounding areas.
The iconic vista from one of the classic drives in Los Angeles, Mulholland Scenic Overlook captures the mystique of Hollywood and Los Angeles with Highway 101 leading the eye toward the skyscrapers of Downtown Los Angeles in the background. From here, you can also see iconic landmarks like the Hollywood sign, the Griffith Observatory. It's no wonder that this location has been used in countless films and TV shows over the years. The area around Mulholland Scenic Overlook has been used as a location for films like Rebel Without a Cause and Chinatown, as well as TV shows like The A-Team and Beverly Hills, 90210.
