Moraine Lake (Lac Moraine in French), located in the heart of the Canadian Rockies, is a true gem of Canada. The lake gets its name from the moraine, a mix of rocks, debris, and sediment, formed by the moving glaciers. It is a fascinating reminder of the glacial forces that shaped the Canadian Rockies, and serves as a connection to the nearby glaciers that still contribute to the lake's beauty. Renowned for its vivid turquoise color, the mesmerizing hue is a result of the refraction of light on glacial rock flour suspended in the water. The glacial rock flour, consisting of finely ground rock particles, flows into the lake from surrounding glaciers. As light passes through the suspended particles, it scatters and reflects, creating the stunning turquoise color that Moraine Lake is famous for. It is a natural phenomenon that adds to the lake's allure. This unique color adds to the lake's charm and draws visitors from all around the world.
